Every now and then I meet with a prospect who thinks that just by having a meeting with me, their business is going to quadruple in size in the next week. They listen intently, ask the same questions over and over again using different words and my answer never changes. I think they think I am going to eventually slip up and spill the magical potion that all of us Marketing folks have sworn to secrecy. There is no potion, but there is Magic.  Marketing is an Art and a Science, just like Magic. Marketing is getting in front of your target audience, repeatedly, hopefully using a variety of methods; a.k.a. "touches". One size does not fit all. It is not one direct mail piece, one tweet, one email, one phone call or one personal letter; it is a series of "touches". The most memorable "touches" are going to be those that the prospect feels are "magical". Such as, the framed article about them or their business, a card acknolweding a siginificant event in their life, tickets to see their favorite team or play, info about the latest developments in their industry, a lead or  referral, a donation to a cause they support.... ... That is the Magic.
